Sanctity of Life

“And they sang a new song, saying: ‘You are worthy to take the scroll and to open its seals, because You were slain, and with Your blood You purchased for God persons from every tribe and language and people and nation.’”

Revelation 5:9, NIV

Dear Praying Friends, Every purchase we make produces an exchange that reveals an item’s true value. What the buyer pays is the item’s worth. In our world, this looks like a cell phone purchased for $899 or a pair of sunglasses exchanged for $19. The price tag reveals the value in the currency of the economy at hand.

Calvary, the centerpoint of all human history preaches to us about God’s great grace and His magnificent character of love and justice. It reveals to us something astonishing about ourselves as well. Calvary’s great exchange proclaims the worth of the human soul. Revelation 5:9 reveals this astounding truth: “with Your blood You purchased for God persons from every tribe and language and people and nation.” The price tag revealing our worth was not in dollars, but in the currency of heaven: the precious blood of Christ.

The inherent worth and dignity of every human life may not be acknowledged by the prevailing culture, but the pain of suppressing this truth prevails. Our city and our nation are plagued by grief and loss due to abortion, school shootings and senseless acts of murder and violence on the rise everywhere. Every human life, no matter their age, class or creed is made in the image of God. Let’s pray this month to honor and protect life in all stages and to hold up the sacredness of life as a gift to steward with reverence and not as a mistake to squander.
